Hvar: An Island Paradise

Looking to enjoy the islands of Croatia? Look no further. Hvar is the answer.

Pulling into the harbor you can see the beautiful hillside town with uniform orange tile roofs sitting around the crystal clear water. After departing the boat we realized exactly what hillside landscapes mean – walking uphill.

Our hostel was a solid 10-15 minute walk from town which in a small town seems pretty far, but anywhere else would seem really close. The good news is the hostel was gorgeous. It offered a giant terrace (with a bar) overlooking the sparkling blue water below and our room actually also offered its own terrace with a view.

To maximize our island time we set off to walk through town and around to a beach the hostel had suggested on the map. The beach was near a luxury beach club and a resort, but the beach itself allowed everyone on it so we spent some time relaxing there and on the pier. The nice part about the area? People are so friendly! We met multiple people lounging and also catching sea urchins for dinner. (They’re edible?!)

After the beach, we cleaned ourselves up and went to watch the sunset at the place everyone talks about Hula Hula. on our way we saw some of our beach friends and then we were greeted by one of the employees with a shot… Interesting. But it just kept getting more interesting as we ran into a group of about 15 Brazilians who were so enthralled by Gabi being Brazilian and me not being. It would have been better if they had been better with English but all in all it made for one rowdy sunset.

That night we joined our hostel for a free up crawl where we ran into a girl from Split, some of our beach friends, and Shaan’s friend Steve again. The couple of bars we went to with the hostel: Sidro and Nautica Bar were alright, but we ended up spending most of the night at Tiva Bar.

While talking to our friend from Split, we finalized our plans to rent a boat and travel around to the nearby islands the next day with her and two of her hostel mates who were there. Time for more fun in the sun!
