An Inside Look at the Dreams Las Mareas All-Inclusive Resort
If you’re looking for the best all-inclusive resort in Costa Rica to hide out at for a few days or week of vacation – it’s hard to beat staying at the Dreams Las Mareas. It offers all of the relaxation and luxury you need to feel like you’re in a tropical paradise with no worries in the world.
I had the good fortunate of celebrating two very dear friends’ nuptials in Costa Rica during a whirlwind trip of fun, laughter, and luxury over Thanksgiving weekend. While everyone was feasting on turkey and mashed potatoes, I was running through airports, driving through mountains, and relaxing around a pool at the Dreams Las Mareas Resort.
Let’s take a closer look at what to expect at the Dreams Las Mareas all-inclusive resort.
The Location of the Dreams Las Mareas in Costa Rica
Beautiful, yes. Convenient, no. Dreams Las Mareas sits on a private beach in a cove on the Pacific side of Costa Rica, just south of the Nicaraguan border in El Jobo Beach. The property is stunningly beautiful surrounded by rolling hills and the ocean and most of all, peace and quiet.ย
The location of Dreams Las Mareas is highly desirable in that it is remote. You won’t find tourists randomly wandering onto its private beach or interrupting our stay. This brings a special kind of tranquility that some more centrally located resorts may not offer.
The Dreams Las Mareas Resort Pools and Grounds
This is where the Dreams Las Mareas Resort really stands out. The property has multiple lagoon style pools offering a variety of settings. There are options for beachfront, infinity pools, swim-up bars, kid friendly pools, adult-only pools, shade, sun, etc.
They are all surrounded by lounge chairs, including some umbrellas and rent-able cabanas. Towels are readily available and youโre never too far from food or drink. In fact, depending on the time of day, you may receive prompt poolside drink service. Does it get better than that?
If you’re looking for the best family all-inclusive in Costa Rica, the Dreams Las Mareas should be on your list of options! The kid pools had awesome slides and activities to keep the kids entertained and even some of the adults! In fact, all of the kids that were with us for the wedding had an amazing time!
Views from the Balconies
As with any luxurious vacation, having a view from your room adds to the adventure. There are two options with tropical and pool views, and you really can’t go wrong! The tropical views have you looking out into the surrounding rainforest while the pool view gives you not just views of the many gorgeous pools, but also of the beach and coast.

The Beach and Sunsets at Dreams Las Mareas
As with any good coastal all-inclusive, Dreams Las Mareas is beachfront, sitting directly on Playa El Jobo. The beach is beautiful but I would not rank it as one of the world-class beaches I’ve encountered throughout my travels.ย
The sand is light brown and the water is on the darker side – not like the perfect turquoise water you see in the Caribbean or South Pacific. That being said, the private beach is situated in a small cove and offers some of the most colorful sunsets Iโve ever seen.ย
Additionally, the water is fairly calm due to its protected location making it ideal for water sports or kids who love playing in the surf.
Dining Options at Dreams Las Mareas
There are eight restaurants at Dreams Las Mareas to choose from:
- Barefoot Grill: A casual restaurant located by the beautiful infinity pool. Best for grilled favorites and quick bites. Open for lunch.
- Coco Cafe: A casual cafe serving up premium coffees and deli snacks. Open all day.
- El Patio: This casual elegance restaurant offers Mexican cuisine. Open for dinner.
- Himitsu: Another casual elegance restaurant serving Pan-Asian cuisine from Japan, China, and Thailand. Open for dinner.
- Oceana: Get your fix of fresh seafood with some seaside views at this casual elegance restaurant. Open for dinner.
- Portofino: Enjoy gourmet Italian dining with a touch of casual elegance. Open for dinner.
- Seaside Grill: Find tropical cocktails and grilled specialties at this casual restaurant. Open for lunch and dinner.
- World Cafe: Try a little bit of everything at this international buffet-style restaurant. Casual for breakfast and lunch. Casual elegance for dinner.
I personally recommend trying all of them throughout your stay to find your favorite.ย The food quality was great and the servings plentiful with food available around the clock.ย You can also order room service, which was our favorite way to enjoy breakfast!
Pro Tip: Many of the restaurants may require dinner reservations ahead of time or you could be facing a long wait. For the best options, plan ahead and make your dinner reservations early on in your trip or even before you come!
Drinks at Dreams Las Mareas
Admittedly, being at Dreams Las Mareas for a wedding, we did a lot of pool sitting and champagne drinking. It was perfect for that! They offer multiple full bars with poolside service and even a swim-up bar.ย Or, if you’re into nightlife, they have some late night bars and even a club on-site.
Make sure to try some of their specialty drinks: Chunky Monkey, Tropical Mojitos, and the Green Monster. They have all been tested and proved to be delicious. ๐
The Dreams Las Mareas Guest Rooms
I stayed in a Junior Suite Ocean View, and it was perfect for my travel companion (sister) and I.ย The room was large enough, clean, and modern.ย And perhaps more importantly, the room was air conditioned and provided a cool escape from the sun.
The only part that struck me as a bit weird was the bathroom doors to the toilet and shower were a light frosted glass that could be seen through.ย They do however offer a heavy curtain between the beds and the bathroom part, so you can create additional privacy if needed.
My favorite part of our guest room was the balcony which offered remarkable views out onto the property and the ocean. It made room service for breakfast a very appealing option as we could be a bit lazy and enjoy the views of the resort and scenery.

The First-Class Service of Dreams Las Mareas
One thing that helped the Dreams Las Mareas in Costa Rica stand out, was the service. It was amazing. From the time we checked in and were brought champagne to the moment we checked out, everyone was attentive and polite. They would go out of their way to ensure we had what we needed.
How to Get to the Dreams Las Mareas Costa Rica
As mentioned previously, the location of the resort is not convenient and getting there can take a while. If you are flying into Costa Rica, there are two main airport options, Liberia and San Jose. They each offer pros and cons for arrival, but here is how you can get to the Dreams Las Mareas resort from both of them.
Getting to the Dreams Las Mareas from Liberia
Liberia offers the closest international airport, and it takes about 2 hours via shuttle to arrive at Dreams Las Mareas. The shuttles are an additional fee and do need to be pre-booked with the hotel. Going through the resort, they cost $50 per person each way, but there are many other shuttle companies which you can check out also.
Getting to the Dreams Las Mareas from San Jose
The other option is to fly into San Jose. Due to the wedding travel agent providing wrong information about shuttle availability from San Jose to Dreams Las Mareas, I flew in and out of San Jose. I highly suggest avoiding this, unless your options for Liberia are extremely limited.
As it turns out, there are very limited options to get to Dreams Las Mareas from San Jose. The cheapest shuttle I found was $107 per person per way, but these run only a couple of times per day and take about 5 โ 6 hours to get there.
Many other shuttles were around $300 per person each way. Another option is to take the bus, which if you have time to spare, this isnโt a bad choice. But if youโre like me, and have limited time to enjoy your trip, rent a car. Thatโs right. I rented a car from San Jose to drive to Dreams Las Mareas.
The drive to Dreams Las Mareas Hotel is supposed to take 4 – 6 hours. My drive on the way there took 5 hours due to traffic and on the way back, only 4 hours.ย Overall driving in Costa Rica is easy and gives you the most flexibility, especially if you have time to stop along the way there or back to enjoy some of the other parts of Costa Rica.
While driving worked out well, it meant it took about 15 hours door to door from Raleigh, NC. This is a lot of travel for someplace that isn’t that far away!
Parking at Dreams Las Mareas
Dreams Las Mareas does offer free valet parking. It is easy to forget about the car the entire time youโre there or you can use it for day trips. They will readily bring it around anytime you need your car.
