As a frequent visitor to Duck, NC—sometimes staying for up to a month at a time—I take my coffee seriously. I’ve tried most of the spots in town, and after plenty of taste-testing, I’ve found the best of the best coffee in Duck.

Whether you’re looking for a top-notch morning brew, a refreshing iced coffee, or the perfect coffee-and-donut pairing, these four coffee shops in Duck, NC are all within walking distance of the town center and should be on your must-visit list. Just think, if you’re visiting for a week, you can try them all… twice!

1. Duck’s Cottage: Best Overall Coffee

If you’re serious about coffee, Duck’s Cottage is the place to go for coffee in Duck. Housed in a historic building near the waterfront, this coffee shop serves up a wide variety of brewed drinks made from high-quality beans.

Try their signature drinks, like the Nutty Duck, Mucky Duck, and the Swan. They are local favorites, and to prove the point, visit in the summer and you’ll find a group of locals hanging out on the front porch enjoying their coffee.

At Duck Cottage, you’ll find true southern hospitality, a small book shop, and of course the ever important caffeine. This all combines to be a must-visit spot for any coffee lover in Duck.

2. Sweet T’s: Best for Frappes

When the summer heat hits, there’s nothing better than a cold coffee drink from Sweet T’s Coffee, Beer, & Wine. As someone who prefers iced coffee, particularly in the summer, this spot is a go-to for my cold and caffeinated fix, and I recommend you try Sweet T’s for blended coffee in Duck.

Their frappes are the standout here—blending rich espresso with ice and flavor for the ultimate summer treat. Whether you’re in the mood for a classic mocha or something more adventurous, Sweet T’s frappe menu is sure to satisfy. Drink it inside or outside, either way, this little shop is one of my favorites. (They also serve up a mean pint if that’s more your speed!)

If you need a delicious breakfast to go with your coffee, head to Treehouse Café & Coffee. Their coffee selection is solid, but what really sets this spot apart is their delicious breakfast biscuits. These biscuits are big and delicious and can be made into amazing breakfast sandwiches.

Choose from classic biscuit sandwiches, like a bacon, egg, and cheese biscuit or something more creative, like my favorite, the Southern Charm. The combination of fresh, flaky biscuits and a warm (or cold) cup of coffee is the perfect way to start your day in Duck.

Duck Donuts is more than just a Duck coffee stop—it’s a hometown success story. This now-famous chain, known for its warm, made-to-order donuts, started right here in Duck, NC. What began as a small local shop has grown into a beloved brand with locations across the country, but the original Duck location still holds a special place in the heart of the town.

While Duck Donuts may not have the most elaborate coffee menu in Duck, their pairing of fresh, made-to-order donuts with a simple, satisfying cup of coffee is unbeatable. The warm, cake-like donuts—customized with your choice of toppings—are the perfect complement to a hot coffee.
